Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any pics that they took during the replacement of the head gasket/ intake gasket. I've labeled all of the wiring, but I think I'm going to have a hard time remembering the wiring routes....etc...I didn't think of taking any pics myself unil after the fact . I'm having the same problem, I believe the plugs will only work in their specified receptacle, but I noticed a black/yellow wire is laying on the rear exhaust manifold on driver's side, which will undoubtedly melt once the engine fires up. Autozone.com has the Haynes (I think!) manual on line, it's an abundance of info, but does not have many actual photos.

All the plugs are shaped in such a way that they will only plug in certain way (you can't plug them in backwards). They are also unique to an area so you won't have to worry about mixing up two sensor plugs for instance. I've never had a problem really with the routing of the wires. They have always pretty much fallen back into their original location just from the existing bends and wire looms that have formed over the year.

Chris, I'm having some trouble with the coil assembly, I finally got the plug wires untangled and the other wires, but there's a black rack in the rear of the assembly that contains a small vacuum canister, the bracket for the rear plug wires, and some other electrical stuff - Does this black rack go above or below the coil plate on the rear studs? Also, I have a vacant male vacuum plug on this particular canister, it is the one where there are two male plugs next to each other. And, on the front of the coil plate is a black band to hold a wiring harness, do you know which harness goes in there? And, lastly, should the front of the coil plate rest on studs, or does it bolt on to the upper intake?

Iceman, I'm pretty sure that the black rack goes below the coil pack because the upper intake manifold bolts hold that rack down. The Vacuum canister that you are talking about sounds like it is the manifold absolute pressure {MAP} sensor (I think, kind of hard to tell from your description but it is in the same general area that you are talking about). There is a tee on the MAP sensor one side goes to the intake and I can't remember where the other side goes, have to look tonight, but I am pretty sure there are no empty ports on the MAP sensor. The other possibility is that the canister your talking about is the Vapor purge valve but that is closer to the throttle body, it has 3 ports and 1 is left open. (I'm about the same place you are in the reassembly process, would be almost done except I cross threaded a rocker cover bolt and had to get a 6mm X 1mm tap to clean the threads up.) Not sure about the harness retainer have to look for that tonight too, that may be for the wire that plugs into the coil pack on the side closest to the alternator. The coil pack mounts on 2 studs screwed into the rear cylinder head in the back and there are 2 bolts that hold it down to the top of the intake manifold in the front.

Thanks, Sparky, that helps tremendously. The MAP sensor mounts on the upper intake (plenum), and is held in place by one of the bolts that holds the upper intake. I would bet it is the latter, this small canister, about the size of a cupcake, has a 1/4" long tube protruding from the front, pointing towards the radiator - on the left is a single port for a vac tube, on the right are two in tandem, and below these on the right is a larger port. One of the tandem ports connects to the port on the left via a curved rubber tube, if you could post a digital photo of yours, that would be great,

Mark, You didn't say what year your Venture was, mine is a 2001. With your added description it sounds like you're talking about the EGR value. My EGR valve is black about the size of a small cupcake and has a 6 pin oval connector facing the radiator. I can't recall if there are any vacuum connections to it. The EGR valve is bolted to the intake behind the throttle body. I'll check and see if I can get you a picture.

Awesome photos, Spark! Although my configuration is slightly different, these will certainly help me wind it up, it's definitely not the EGR I've been describing, I exagerated the size slightly, I'll call it the size of a mini-muffin, all plastic. In your picture number 1316, it rests on the rear studs that hold the coil assembly, I will try and post some pictures this week.

For future reference on posting pictures on this site: I have found the easiest way for me is to upload your picture to a host site ,(I use www.tinypic.com). Once it's hosted, you'll get a 'URL' address for the picture. Take that URL address and when you want to insert a picture in your post format it like this:
[img]your picture's URL goes here[/img] . That is the proper code to post pictures on this site. You can use that process if you need to post any more pictures in this thread, or any other thread, or even your signature.
One good thing about tinypic.com is that the photos remain up there a long time, (I have photos on that site that are still there after 3 1/2 years, maybe they remain there indefinitely?) As long as you keep a copy of the picture's address,( what I do is have tinypic send me an email with the pics address, then I save that email to a special folder I created in my email program entitled "Tinypic". This allows me to go back if I need to in the future and bring up the photo again,)you can access it as you need to.That way you won't have pics "hogging" space on your website and frees it up for something else.
One more thing, you also need to make sure the pics you post on this site aren't too large. When you go to post them and thy are too large, you'll get an error message letting you know that the pics ar too large. All you have to do then is to resize them down by using a program,( some use MS Paint, there are others as well,) and re-host them and re-post them on the site.

It goes underneath although I don't think it really matters. On my '98 I put it underneath the plate, then don't put the nuts on the stud. It makes removing the packs much easier and the two bolts in the front are sufficient to hold everything down.

I know where you are talking about, but I don't remember where that line goes. I believe that it should be a semi-rigid plastic line, not a rubber hose if that helps any.

There should be a wire bundle that goes across the back top edge of the engine. I'd have to double check on my van tonight, but I think that leads to the sensors on the air intake.

On my van they are bolts in the front, studs in the rear.
