Brakes engagded while driving!?!?

I just put new Ceramic back brakes on my 2001 pontiac Grand Prix SE, and when im driving it will give a slight squeak, indicating that the brakes are on while im driving, plus....when at a red light the car wont creep forward at all unlike before if your foot is off the brake. what could this be???

Re: Brakes engagded while driving!?!?

If you just put new brakes on you either have them too tight or they are merely seating themselves to the rotors/drums. It is possible if these are discs that the calipers are sticking and there is a good possibility that the calipers will need replaced. Finally, if they are discs and didn't come with shims you should remove the pads and put some quiet stop on the back and reinstall the pads. This will elimnate the squeal that you are experiencing.

Good Luck!

Re: Brakes engagded while driving!?!?

They are dics..but why would they be seating themselves to the rotarts its not supposed to to That. I will put some of that grease on the back of the pads where the calipers tap it.

you don't smell them when they get hot do you? if so i'd replace rubber brake lines also..i've had quiite a few that the rubber brake lines colaps inside and not letting all the presure off calipers...but the squeal should go away after there set..good luck......
