Oil in 97 Jetta Air Intake tube

I needed to remove the air intake tube from my 97 Jetta 2.0 liter and discovered engine oil slightly puddle near the throttle body. I don’t notice any oil smoke from the exhaust. I changed plugs and they seemed normal. Could this be a crankcase ventilation problem or something more serious? Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks

I noticed oil there too when I cleaned the butterfly valve in the throttle body of both my Jettas. I am sure the oil is coming from the crankcase through the hose that connects to the intake tube to burn up. Nothing to worry about.

Re: Oil in 97 Jetta Air Intake tube

replace the circle valve on top of the valve cover (pcv valve) the small 3" rubber hose that goes to the plastic hose under the intake manifold, and the long plastic hose under the intake manifold that goes to the block (with the r-ring).

The oil is caused by the pcv valve diaphram cracking and letting oil by and into the intake pipe. A new valve will solve the issue.

Agree with all of the above. I'd also keep an eye on the oil level. High oil levels can cause the buildup too.
