This time I'm building the abbreviation nightmare :screwy:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_001.jpg

Base kit is the Jaguar XJS TWR sports from Hasegawa. I never liked the ugly plastic bumpers TWR put on this otherwise beautiful car. I thought about making it a phantom racer with big fender flares and heavily modded bodykit....but then I found a better solution. I am converting it to a UTE (utility vehicle = pickup). It will pull a trailer loaded with a Jaguar XJS H.E. TWR in full race trim. :sunglasse :sunglasse :sunglasse

I started with outlining the cutting lines:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_003.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_002.jpg

After sawing and moving the rear roof section forward it looks like this:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_004.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_005.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_006.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_007.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_008.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_009.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_010.jpg

Now I have to shape it. Don't expect updates before next weekend

C&C as always welcome.

Cheers
Sebastian

Hola! What a cool project!

It must make you feel a bit like the King of Brunei
Doesn't he always convert his supercars into break versions to do his shopping at Harrods?

Lol exactly! Any plans for other modifications? What wheels are you planning to use? I've always wanted to see someone build this kit, stock or modified.

Cool, an El Camino-ish Jaguar!!! This will be neat to see built. Great idea, should be fun for you.

I worked on the engine a bit last night...

Drilled 13 holes in the distributor...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_011.jpg

...and wired the engine (1-4-9-8-5-2-11-10-3-6-7-12):

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_012.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_013.jpg

And as there are 4 more XJS in my to do pile - I'll go distributorless on all of them

Oh, BTW: The engine is far from being finished...lots of bits and pieces to add. It is almost like an Enthusiast engine (but better fitting).

Cheers

Update!

I did some work on the engine...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_019.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_020.jpg

...and sanded the body:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_022.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_023.jpg

I think the overall shape is better than on the original body, especially when viewed from the side :licka:

What do you guys think?

Cheers
Sebastian

PS: Let's see how long it takes you to find the little joke :naughty:

Hi Seb,

looks good so far.

The little joke is the orange decal "Cool Rat" or something like that ;-))

What do you plan for the trunk area, it is larger now.

On some of the silver painted hoses of the engine molding seams still can be seen :eek7:

I agree with Micha, it's great but touch-up those part may be a good idea.

I'm wondering the next step would be... a BRG (spell right this time my personal UK trainer ;) LOFL) hounting break... wow!

Well, since it's come up

I also saw that but was too nice (timid) to mention it. It does rather detract from the other awesome work you are putting in. Actually I was surprised to see it.

Well....actually there is no church attached to that belt :grinno:

The little joke is the orange decal "Cool Rat" or something like that ;-))
hmm Micha...you missed it by 4mm :p That's the original "Coolant" sticker by Hasegawa.
>> It's the "church belt" sticker that reads "System Drain". That belt also drives the A/C compressor...you know what I mean.

What do you plan for the trunk area, it is larger now.
I plan to do a pickup bed (kind of). It's going to be the work mule for a Jaguar shop.

Stop!

Before you go further look at this: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=554434

Before you try white glue etc (if that's what you are going to do) try a test this way. I PROMISE you it works. The effect is 1000000% better than other ways. (you can't always see it in photos nut in 1/1.....)

See? Sometimes I am not so timid :evillol:

Hi Steven,

thanks for the link to your great tut. I actually looked at it a long time ago.
What I did is the following:

- paint the areas to be flocked with a matching oil-based color
- dump flocking on it
- press
- shake off the excess flocking

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/JAGUAR/XJS_TWR_pickup/IMG_024.jpg

Worked quite good, but I'll use your method for the floor mats.

Cheers

Quick update. I put on fender flares because I need to cover really wide wheels.

Hi Seb,

body with widened rear fenders looks great (youŽd better think about a more aerodynamic racing version :evillol: )

Rear bumper looks cleaner, maybe you should think about replacing the exhaust-tips with aluminium tubes

W-Wow, Sebastian, that's awesome! To finish off the body, perhaps you could make a wing like the one used on the Hyper widebody cars.
