1984 Caprice transmissionpsvfd 10-18-2002, 09:57 PM My 1984 Caprice with 305 engine not sure what the automatic transmission is except it has overdrive. When I drive with the engine cold it does not go into overdrive untill the engine warms up, then after the warmup the trans seems to shift in and out (from overdrive to drive) as I keep at a steady speed at 45 to 50. It does this a lot every time I drive it (most every day). What would do this? CRXforever 11-07-2002, 02:12 AM well you have a TH700R4 now it might be a problem with your T.V. cable tsa3d 06-02-2003, 11:25 AM I think I am suffering from the same problem with my Caprice Classic 90. If u did solve the problem pls tell me about it.;) tsa3d 06-02-2003, 11:30 AM I forgot to tell u, I changed all the spair parts in the transmission but the problem is still happening. The mechanic is sugesting that it is a heating problem ie. the cooling cycle is not functioning. Or an electronic module must be changed becaus at high temprture it wont work. tazz3 06-27-2003, 11:29 PM well on my 79 caprice the tranny that came with th car was junk. i think i twas a 200r. but iam not sure. my mom and dad got this car brand new back in 1979 lol and they gave it to me 5 years ago and they keept it in the garge till then Superman45342 08-07-2004, 08:43 AM Check for updated proms for your ecm. And try TCC solenoid. The speed you were running is around the speed that the TCC engages. 700's were bad for that. Hope this helps. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
