Thinking about buying

I am considering purchasing a 2001 subbie outback sedan with 72k.. what are you opinions on this car. I am concerned with reliability, gas, and safety. Thanks

Re: Thinking about buying

regardless of price, i would not buy it if it has the I4 engine...too much potential for head gasket and piston slap problems.

Go with the H6 engine instead. i just bought my wife an '01 LLBean Outback wagon with the H6 and 100K miles for about $10G and it is a REALLY nice, reliable car. The H6 has almost zero history of the above problems seen in the I4.

Good luck
