rb in a s14linchpin360 04-26-2007, 09:47 PM hi i was wondering how to put an rb26 in an s14. does anyone know all the details or a website that does? any help is appreciated. Swigz 04-26-2007, 10:08 PM I would like to welcome you to our site. Now, I would like to warn that you may get a large amount of criticism for this post. There are a lot of people that come into this forum and ask the same question who will probably never, ever put an RB26 into their car 1. due to cost 2. due to the technical know-how required and 3. due to the fact that they probably haven't even researched it before asking the question. To be bluntly honest, unless you have money to burn on the project, an advanced understanding of fabrication or getting the required parts and an advanced understanding of the work that goes into that engine in particular and the dynamics of doing that type of swap, you will not be making this type of a commitment. You'll leave here because you didn't get the answer you wanted which, I'm guessing is "OOH! COOL! RB26 IN AN S14 OMG!" Instead you're going to have the majority, if not all, of these members telling you that you would be wasting your money unless it is for a specific reason that you would be doing this swap other than "just to have one." To all subsequent posters of this forum: please don't be rude in your honesty. Flaming will receive a 24-hour ban. xcusememisswyn 04-26-2007, 10:55 PM I wont be rude, but I will be blunt. You will never do it, it costs over $10K, takes a ton of custom work, and if your first step towards it is asking on this forum how to do it, then it will never happen. If you have to ask how, you won't do it, no one has proved me wrong on that belief for the last three years, and so many people ask. Odds are you are a 16-20 y/o who is enchanted by the idea of a Skyline engine in your 240, but once you get your head out of the JDM F&F Tokyo Drift scene you will realize its almost impossible, and not worth it at all in the end. nismogt_rfreak 04-27-2007, 04:07 PM Also, do you have a plan for dealing with weight distribution issues? Keep in mind that a twin turbo inline six is a lot heavier than than the KA you have. Swapping in an SR20DET, CA18DET, or turbocharging the KA are a lot cheaper, the money you would save on the RB swap could be put into mods and get you as much horsepower and maybe a nice set of coilovers. Chuki_breath 04-27-2007, 05:48 PM www.mckinneymotorsports.com (http://www.mckinneymotorsports.com) has "drop in" parts. They can do it. Email them. Get a quote. Your going to need a rb25 transmission to keep the rwd. There is place that does rb26 with awd conversion.......for the price of a new car lol. But then again, i could of bought a new car with the money iv spent on my 240 too. But its overall built, not just a somewhat STOCK rb26 in a probably stock s14. If this is your plan for the first mod on the car, I would be prepared to invest in atleast a full bushing kit and some coil-overs(a decent set). The stock wornout suspension will not accomodate the added weight very well. Especially if your bushings are already shot and oozing like a 2 cent whore. linchpin360 04-27-2007, 07:40 PM well actually i am 20. but i have the means and the money to do it. its not because of f&f. not by a long shot. ive seen it done a few times. i know a little about the swap. the use an rb25 or rb30 tranny. single turbo to keep it left hand drive. im just trying to get a parts list to get me started. i dont want it so people can say oooo wow an rb in a 240. i want it, plain and simple, because i want it. ive been in love with the skyline ever since my bro told me about it when i was like 10. so thats about the long and short of it. if i can get some assistance i would appreciate it. oh, and by the way i am a mechanic at a shop. i do fabricate metal and weld. i do custom wiring. so any fabbing of anything, shouldnt be a problem. nismogt_rfreak 04-27-2007, 08:14 PM In that case, get some mounts from Top Hat Performance or, as kouki already mentioned, McKinney. I'm not an expert, but maybe try lowering the rear of the car to get the right weight distribution. xcusememisswyn 04-27-2007, 10:53 PM do brakes, suspension, and probably stiffen the chassis. Drive for awhile and get used to it, as well as save up over $10K, and do some research. No one on this forum, or any forum I am on really has ever done it, so don't expect a lot of answers, you need to start looking for them on your own. The basics are easy, but its gonna take a lot of hard work to get it done. DC1984 04-27-2007, 11:22 PM i wish i had that kinda money when i was 20. im 23 now and stuck with an sr20, lol. linchpin360 04-28-2007, 01:56 AM thanks, and i work very hard for my money. i figure a nice set of coilovers will handle the weight distribution. i may end up opting for the sr but the plan for right now is the rb. 93-240SX-COUPE 04-28-2007, 03:46 AM i wish i had that kinda money when i was 20. im 23 now and stuck with an sr20, lol. I was there once...infact I was 18 when I wanted to do a swap like that. I bought the 240, then never did ANYTHING to the car. Don't remember why...oh right, no money. Then again I just watched this show street fury and these fools do swaps every day. It sucked btw but to each his own.' "Thou Shalt Not Flame" DC1984 05-05-2007, 08:55 PM ^theres a first time for everything, lol^ slideways... 05-06-2007, 11:35 AM im 24 and i cant even afford a complete 240... (actually i can but i just dont have one right now.) even if i could afford to swap an RB, i wouldnt. 93-240SX-COUPE 05-07-2007, 04:07 AM Im 23 and stuck with a ka... :frown: lol Seriously, its not funny...:frown: Im still running on 3 cylinders cuz my first cylinder went out again. 193+k miles will do that I guess. SaphusGT 05-11-2007, 02:28 AM Im still running on 3 cylinders cuz my first cylinder went out again. 193+k miles will do that I guess. Lol... I guess rust isn't the worst thing I could have happen :) xcusememisswyn 05-12-2007, 08:29 PM Id rather only three cylinders than rust 1_revin_Silvia 05-13-2007, 10:25 AM hey there, I dont post on these forums often, but I'm in the final stages of completing my rb26 swap into the s14 chassis and keeping the tt setup. The car will be on the road in 2 weeks. You can check on my cardomain page if you want for updates as I'm keeping a journal of what i've been doing to date. I figured with all the questions about the swap i could help alot of people out by doing that. I havent updated in a while but check it out periodically and i'll have it updated soon. As for the complexity of the swap its not as hard as people say it is. granted it's harder then a stock engine swap, but if you're mechanically inclined (im a transport mechanic so I have some knowledge) it's a fun and challenging project. the one thing i will agree with is cost. If you wanna do this swap have at least 10 000$ to cover the purchase of the engine and the fabrication parts, and all the extra parts you wouldnt think of originally. I had my exhaust, intake, and intercooler piping all fabricated myself so that saved me close to 1000.00 alone. Thats an example of the money you can save if you can do your own work. Anywyas, all this stuff will be in my cardomain journal, so check there in a few weeks and it'll get you well on your way for sourcing parts and answering alot of tech questions.
