90 Grand Am LE 2.5L chuggingAZCS-B 04-23-2007, 02:42 PM I have a couple of problems actually that I discovered during my drive from California to Texas. The first one is a chugging, almost like a stall when I'm driving. It is just a momentary chug then everything is fine after that. It's not consistent though so I can't duplicate it whenever I want to. It has become more frequent over time though. I thought it might be the fuel filter so I changed it and the problem is still there. My second problem is my cooling fan. It seems to come on whenever it wants to, usually right after I start the engine. I had a bad overheating problem with this car but changed the heater core and water pump and it runs very cool now but the fan still comes on for no apparent reason. The last one is an intermittent speedometer and odometer. It just works when it wants to and seems to stop when I hit a bump in the road. The gas and temp gauges still work when the speedometer is not. The temp warning light and shift light flicker though when the speedometer is not working. It was an eventful trip but old-faithful got me here. Now I just need to iron out these bugs and make her happy again. Any help you guys can give would be great! AZCS-B 04-29-2007, 02:23 PM I changed my plugs, wires and PCV and now my check engine light is on and won't go out. I changed the wires one at a time so I wouldn't get that wrong. Could someone recommend a tester so I can find out what's up? Thanks. grfnkl 04-30-2007, 10:28 AM Ok i will do my best to help you out on everything. First off the Speedometer/odometer. You may want to take it out and see if the connections are all tight and not loose. If they are tight, then it's time for a new cluster all together. For the slight chug you were feeling when you were driving the car could be a whole lot of things. You already did a basic tune up. If it still continues, you may want to look into a new ignition module or fuel pump they both can cause this.... You fan shouldn't be constantly going on. The fans on these year cars will go on when you put the a/c on though. The only logical explanation is your fan relay or temperture sensor is going bad causing it to go on early. Lastly the Check Engine light. You could buy a simple code scanner either in the store like pepboys, or even walmart has it. The only thing is the code is released by a series of "morse" codes the check engine light will flash. You can also jump the computer to retrieve the codes ( but i'm not 100% famaliar with that technique) Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
