'97 305 no start\timing issue when damp..

I have a 305 with 130k miles and when the thing sits for a day without being used has a prob. starting. This has happened 4 or 5 times over the last 2 yrs.
I have noticed that when it rains or is really damp outside and the vehicle sits is when it occurs. When I go to start it ,it cranks good and then it starts to act like it is out of time, like kicking back ,firing on the wrong cyl. .When in this no start condition I have replaced most ign. parts with new to no avail. I have found (2) temp. solutions that will get it going until it happens again, (1) is to run it everyday, (2)if I put my salamander heater under the front blowing in to the engine compartment for an hour, it'll start. Is there a connection from the ECM that is getting damp? I have thrown alot of green at this prob to no avail. and would like some opinions on this issue if you have one.
If i could find the head icon banging aginst the brick wall it would be (here)..
This issue has been a real downer for me, and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,Ron

Maybe you want to try running at night & misting the engine with a spray
bottle & looking for arcing. Just a wild thought but its free. GOOD LUCK.

my girl's hyundai (ew) had the same exact problem. spark plug boot slightly cracked, and under wet conditions arced against the cylinder head.
bought new wires, problem solved.
this icon is awesome, i don't know why.

No codes. I think it may be a elec. connector issue maybe getting damp. Plug wires are good.

Re: '97 305 no start\timing issue when damp..

ok new idea:
some cars have inadequately sealed equipment, like the computer, for example. or any number of harnesses.
condensation gets inside it and causes a condition that doesn't allow the vehicle to start for some reason.
the hard and stupid part is that you need to follow the chain to see where the problem is.
check to make sure you got spark first, pull a plug and work your way back if need be
check to make sure you got fuel second, pull the fuel line and try to start the motor. it will pump gas out of that line regardless of whether it's connected to the engine or not. no gas=no combustion
check to make sure you've got airflow. this one's easy. make sure no rogue space monkeys got stuck in your intake assembly.
once you've found the culprit, work you way backwards through that system until you find the faulty part.
for example plugs, wires, distributor, ignition control module, and onward
or fuel line, fuel filter, fuel intake screen, fuel pump
and see what happens.
i have more ideas if these don't work.
