Front Hub/Axle removal issues

Hey All! A newbie here with a puzzled search for help:

I have an 89 Camry, i4, manual, 190k with a torn CV joint boot. So, I go through what would be the sensible approach to remove the steering knuckle (along with brake hardware, ball joint, strut, and tie-rod end of course) to get to the axle - and my Haynes manual definitely shows its limitations at times (though it's really steered me well several times). I can't seem to pull off the hub. I even rented a 7-ton two jaw puller to remove it and bent my hub. Ouch! Also, my axle doesn't have the six-bolt connection to the shaft coming out of the transmission either. Does anyone know how to get it out? And recommendations for a new hub? I guess I'm also confused as to how the hub/bearing/knuckle assemble works. I'm too used to working on rear wheel drive vans, I think. :)

I'd appreciate any words of wisdom. Thank you in advance!

David,

Download the factory service manual for your year (generation 2 1987-1991), stickied at the top of this forum. It's a free download and should have the information you are looking for. It's a lot more detailed than the Haynes manual.
