Misaligned Crankshaft Pulley?? - 98 Grand Am 2.4L

This forum has been very helpful to me in the past - hopefully that streak continues ...

Here's a little back story. I've got a 1998 Grand Am SE 2.4L (my wife's car). While she was driving on the highway, she threw the serpentine belt. What was left of the belt was wrapped between the crankshaft pulley and the engine.

As I was putting on a new belt, I noticed that the crankshaft pulley was not in line with the rest of the accessories (ac condenser, alternator and tensioner). The AC pulley, alternator pulley and belt tensioner are all perfectly in line, but the crankshaft pulley sticks out an extra 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch (closer to the passenger tire). Just to verify, I put the belt anyway on and started the engine. Ten seconds and $20 later, the belt immediately jumped off and again wedged itself behind the crankshaft pulley.

There's no play in the crankshaft pulley itself. But is it possible that it was pushed out away from the engine block when the belt was forced in there at highway RPMs? Any other theories? Or at least can anyone suggest how to get the pulley back into alignment? Anything?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to AF.

The crank pulley is realy two parts, what probly happend was the belt pushed it off.
You will probly have to replace this I dont think it can be fixed other wise.
