Changing the Supercharger oil

I recently had my oil changed, and I was told that my supercharger oil needs changed about every 30k miles. However, when I asked my Chevy dealer about this service, but they were clueless. "Honestly, we're not sure. We've never actually performed this service. We don't know how much oil it requires, either, so we can't tell you a price." Has anyone done this yet? Does this help fuel mileage at all? I'm assuming it would.

Re: Changing the Supercharger oil

I would assume you have an 04 or 05 SS. Otherwise, you wouldn't have a supercharger. It is best to change the oil at least every 50k miles, 30k wouldn't hurt. There are some problems that can crop up if you don't change the supercharger oil, such as a bad supercharger bearing, which can lead to having to replace the supercharger entirely.

Re: Changing the Supercharger oil

The 04-05 Impala SS has the L67 SII 3800 engine. The supercharger is an Eaton M90 Gen3. The dealers are clueless because there is really no published service interval to replace the SC oil below 100K miles. It says check the level. However, just to be safe and extend the life of the supercharger it doesn't hurt to replace the oil very 30K miles or sooner. I do all of my L67s annually.

You will need two bottles of GM supercharger oil, PN: 12345982. Each bottle is 4 oz so you will need 1 1/2 bottles, 6 oz. At the front of the snout is an allen headed bolt/plug you remove and then you'll need a syringe or turkey baster to extract the old oil. It is very smelly and rancid so do not get any on you.
