Have a look at the coil-pack . I got a '97 and the coil-pack went on it.

Re: GOLF 2.0 1995 it won't start HELP

I have a 96 golf that won't start intermittantly and it has no spark when it won't start. Have replaced the coil pack, distributor, engine wire harness, ign switch, computer, and all relays and the problem persists and is getting more freguent. any ideas let me know.

Check ignition timing.

Re: GOLF 2.0 1995 it won't start HELP

I worked on VW's for over 7 years at a dealership, one thing we always saw with starting problems after someone has replaced ignition components(especially dist cap & rotor) was that some aftermarket rotors would not work with VWs, even if they say it is the right one for your car.

The only ones I have seen trouble free are the BOSCH ones.

hope this helps

I've also seen bad distibutors causing this, especially in 1995 model year, they integrated the crank sensor with the distributor, so if your sensor is bad, you have to replace the distributor($$$$$)

Thanks for the info, but I have replaced the distributor twice, once with a NAPA rebuilt and then with a Bosch new one, and I still get no spark.
