Brakes and rotors

Has anyone here had to replace their brakes and rotors on the 2004 Impala SS at 22,000 miles yet? I do a combo of city and highway driving. The GM dealer said my front rotors have to be turned, and that the rear rotors has rust spots on them. $400.00 Only 5% left on front brakes..Is this another case of GM junk?

Re: Brakes and rotors

I have a 04 with 34,000 on it. I just took off the wheels to get a good look at the pads, i have about 70% left. I did have to turn the front rotors at 25,000 though.

Re: Brakes and rotors

If the car sets for long periods of time (5-7 days at a time, especially outdoors and exposed to the elements), the metallic particles created during braking can impart rusty spots on the rotors that will over time lead to pitting and brake pulsation. A change to ceramic based pads in the future will help eliminate this issue. This problem will be felt more on the fronts since they do most of the stopping.
