Parts for an IHI RHB6

Does anyone know of parts availability for an IHI RHB6?

I'm looking for a compressor wheel. I'm not too fussy on exact spec (trim etc) as I have a spare housing I can machine to fit.

Re: Parts for an IHI RHB6

have you called IHI to see if they can provide the parts you need?

usually these companies provide an aftersales service so you can get replacement parts if need be.

Emailed IHI a few years back. Parts are out of production.

ahh. the only other thing i can think of is to look for a car that came with that turbo and go searching the scrap yards. or phone up a company that remanufactures turbos and see if they have the wheel you want.

Already done that. I'm hoping someone might come up with a remote pattern part manufacturer or a bolt on equivalent from another brand.

Re: Parts for an IHI RHB6

i'm no expert on IHI turbos, so i guess you'll just have to take measurements of wheel size etc and try find a similar one from someone like Garrett. from what my friends tell me, they're very good about spare parts and stuff. it may be worth giving them a call.

is there something special about this turbo? or do you just want to use it because you already have it?

Even with a rooted compressor wheel it gives about 30% less exhaust backpressure than a T25 for the same boost on the same engine.
So I'd like to get it working properly and see what it can do.

I'm faced with (probably) a similar cost to rebuild (bearings) a T25 I currently have or find a new compressor wheel for the IHI. Both will only be a temporary measure (1 year or so) but will be a backup once removed.

I have a habit of always taking the "more interesting" approach.

Re: Parts for an IHI RHB6

Did a quick search on the turbo, found which cars came with them stock:

ISUZU MPR Truck '88-'92 IHI RHB6-A

Mazda 626 '83-'83

Mazda MX6 (1st gen)

Fiat Spyder '81-'82

that's what i could find. looked for info on rebuilding them but found nothing.

There're two others as well Diahatsu Rocky turbo diesel and some Yanmar stationary engine.

The wheel is 59mm OD with a 6.7mm bore. The back is flat, whereas a garrett T28/T3 wheel has a dish to it. No doubt I can machine one from a T28/T3 wheel, but my gear isn't accurate enough and it'd need rebalanced afterwards.

Re: Parts for an IHI RHB6

we have a company here that does lots of custom turbo work, making turbos and machining and balancing parts.

if you want, i'll find out their contact details and you can see if they can make you the right wheel.

Thanks for the offer, but there are plenty of turbo shops here too capable of the work.

I just found out the VF39 and other such turbos (WRX) have a 60mm compressor wheel. Anyone know the shaft size?

Re: Parts for an IHI RHB6

looked, all i could find was something that said it has a T3 shaft. but i'm guessing that size is manufactureer dependant and that you wanted size in mm.

Re: Parts for an IHI RHB6

do you have a pic of the wheel exactly you need? Trim? Inducer/exducer diamter? Shaft size?

I used to rebuild IHI turbos frequently and probably have a wheel around here or could get you one.

I don't have a handy pic, the spare wheel I have suffered severe dust erosion and is mostly gone.

Here are the measurements.
Exducer 59mm
Inducer 36-39mm (hard to measure on an eroded wheel)
Shaft 6.7mm
Wheel length 24.4mm
