Transmission Iussue - 3.8L

I have anomaly when the car is cold.
It shifts in a way that the RPM stays up at 2000-2500 RPM and after 2-3 seconds it does shift.
The car had originally only 20K miles and now has 35K (only highway drive)
Can someone tell me what they think about this anomaly?

Thanks

have you checked the fluid level? that'd be the most obvious possible culprit

The level looks ok. Is it possible that the fluid lost its quality?

I got it last year with 8K miles less from original owner. I believe he didnt change this oil.
Color not so red anymore and that is what worries me (is that typical)?

Re: Transmission Iussue - 3.8L

What year?

My 2001, and most A/Ts shift pretty sloppy until the fluid warms up, especially if it is starting dead cold. In particular this Impala seems to take a long time to transition all gears, and it never is really crisp -- maybe by design, because even shifting maually there is a long transition time.

If I had to guess it's the computer telling the engine to do things (like retard/advance timing or injector pulse), while the shift is happening.

The "program" is certainly diffferent between "cold start" and "warmed up" modes.

Before you put big bucks into it, see if the weather change "fixes" your issue.
