security/dome light stays on

2000 s-10 Blazer. This is a new thing that started today. On the way home from work I noticed the dome lights were on. The only way I could get them to go out was to use the DOME LIGHT OVERRIDE. To night, the SECURITY light in the dash won't go out. After I turned the ignition off the radio used to play until I opened the door, now it goes off when I turn the key off. Has anyone had a problem like this and what can I do to fix it? Thanks for any information.
AMENDED 10-12-02. Could this be a theft lock problem? The reason for this is every thing seemed to be working as it should be when I was running some errands this morning. When I got home, I locked it. About 3 hrs later, it started with the horn and lights going off as if someone were trying to get into it but this wasn't the case as I was in the front yard when this happened. HELP

I'm having a similar problem with my 99 Blazer. The security light has come on when I'm just driving around before, and doesn't go off until I turn the ignition off. But the big problem I have is that twice now, when I try to start it, the the motor shuts off as soon as it starts up. I looked in the owners manual. And it said to wait 10 minutes then try to start it. This works, but it is pretty incovenient to have to wait 10 minutes to try and start it again. My question, is there a way to bypass this whole system?

both of you need to check your door switches, it sounds as though one of them is sticking, or is broken.

I have the exact same problem in my 2001 S-10.. Its not the door switches because when you have the key in the ignision, the door chime goes off... the other wierd this is when I am driving I can lock my doors, but the drivers door unlocks right back again. I have to lock it manually. Some times everything will work fine for a few minutes, then it will start all over again... I changed out the headlight/dimmer panel with a new one, and that didnt help... PLEASE HELP!

huh?

you've most likely answered the question to your own problem. you said it chimes with the key in the ignition, and the door unlocks itself if you lock it using the power lock switch. both of these things happen if the door switch indicates an open door. most likely either the door switch is bad, or the BCM isnt seeing that the door is closed.

start with the switch and check it first. you'll need an ohm meter, and access to the terminals of the switch. if thats ok, i'd investigate the BCM.

ok, BUT if im sitting in the truck with the key in the ignision, and the chime is going off, and i close the door, the chime stops... that to me means that the switch is working... does the BCM have to be reprogrammed if i have unplugged the headlight switch harness?

ok, you didnt say before that the chime stopped when the door is closed.

however the BCM wont allow you to power lock the drivers door if the key is in the ignition and the door is open, or it (BCM) thinks its open.

do one thing, access the back of the door jam switch for the drivers door and see how many wires are on that connector. it may be a multi-contact switch, and only partly bad.

and no, the BCM shouldnt be affected by disconnecting the headlight switch harness.

Re: security/dome light stays on

Is your drivers side door sagging? This is a common problem. Check your hinge pins.

Re: security/dome light stays on

I have the identical problem with my 2001 s10. My door does sag, but what does this have to do with the problem?

If you door sags enough, it won't connect with the switch that controls the dome lights. My 97 had sagging door hinges and the dome lights flickered and the "door ajar" sound would beep intermitently.

Although it's always a good idea to search the archives for information regarding your problem, please start a new thread when posting a problem/question. Resurrecting old threads only gets confusing to those trying to follow along and respond.
