2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED H.O.

If the head lights are off and I step on the brakes, the brake lights come
on... But the left light is dimmer than the right. When the head lights are
on and I step on th brakes the brake lights come on accept for the left one
goes completely out.:banghead:

Anyone. Please help.

Harold, first of all Welcome to AF.

Sounds like you've got a short in the wiring going to the lights. Might be time to trace the wiring. I'd start at the light that's having the problem and work forward.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply Fred. Now all I need to know is how to trace it. I hate it when al my bells and whistles don't work. I thought it might be something I could do myself... But it looks like I will need a trip to the dealer. UGH! Harold

Electronics aren't my strong suit. You might want to try by pulling the taillight cover off and looking for any chafed wiring there. Otherwise having someone take a look at it might be the best option.

There is most likely a short somewhere. Perhaps one of the plugs isn't connected all the way making good contact. Before giving up, I'd take off the tail light lens as Fred mentioned and see if the connection is broken or loose. GL

I'm having the exact same problem with my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Did you take your Jeep to the dealer and if so what was the outcome?

Could be due to a bulb socket issue which I hear is common. Check out this link:
