Hey guys and Gals, I'm new to this forum and since I'm a Grand Am owner I thought what the heck, lets check it out. I've run into trouble with my 95 Grandam, problem being I cracked my block by stupidity. I left to much water in the antifreeze mixture and well, winter hit and guess what happened. Yeppers my block has a huge crack from one cylinder straight across to the last on both sides of my block. So I went on ebay and found a godsent motor, or so I thought. I purchased the motor before doing any research into the compatibility from a 93 to a 95. The original wire harness in my 95 allows for a pcm controlled motor while the 93 motor is ecm controlled, opps. everything else on the motor and tranny lines up, like the mounts, exhaust and basically fits justs nicely but the wiring harness is a hurdle. The pcm connections are not compatible with the ecm i have to install with the motor. Just looking for any advice that may be an alternative to swaping the wire harness. I have no idea if the pcm computer that came with the car would work for the 3300 when its meant for the 3100 so any advice would be welcome. My intentions are to just purchase the proper wiring harness from a wreckers and install it but if I could avoid spending anymore cash I'd love it. I will keep you guys updated on my progress when I decide what to do and tell you how it all goes and how successful I am in making the 93 3300 work in my 95.

*Please note the motor and tranny mounts do line up. Money is very tight so options are limited. This is my first big project like this but I have a huge automotive knowledge and am finally moving into the electronic part of things after rewiring an 89 beretta. This is my only means of transportation and my options are extrememly limited. I bought the 3300 off ebay complete with ecm tranny and all for an extremely (ridiculously) low price. It had no reserve bid so I lucked out. I also was given a guarentee that everything should be tip top and that it will run. The GrandAm That it was taken out of was a write off due to an accident(T BONE). After full inspection everything checks out and it isn't seized or leaking anywhere. I'm hoping if I grab the wire harness for the 93 3300 that it will work, shouldn't be any reason why not cause I have the ecm for it, just have to do a little tinkering I guess. Thanks for your feedback and I will keep you informed. Just got a price on the wire harness $20 from the wreckers if I go grab it out myself. How cool is that. The Mechanic said it best for me to take it out to avoid unwanted cuts. Kewl!!!

Sorry I didnt answer your post earlier.

But the 3300 wont work with the 95 PCM.

You are going to need a manual for both engines preferably so you can figure out what wires are needed to get it running.
The 3.3 is WAY different then the 3.1, and I doubt the motor mounts will line up and the trans might not bolt up either to the 3.3.
3.1 is a 60deg V6 and the 3.3 is a 90deg.

You are going to have alot of work ahead of you.
And this is something I have not done before.

But I did swap a 95 3.3 Old into a 93 GA w/3.3 back in the day.
It alone took me several weeks to get tuned/running what a head ache

Your best bet is to get rid of the 3.3 and get your self a 3.1 , a 3.4 would work too but you still would have alot of work and someone with a Tech II scanner to program the PCM.

hey, i just recently had that problem when i blew my engine. tried to replace with a 3300. my suggestions are as follows.

DON"T do that.

best bet if you want your car running again. just go to a wreckers pick up a used 3100 svi v6. can run anywhere from $350 to $650. make sure that if its for a different car that you keep your original wiring harness. should take about a week to install yourself if your doing it after work and know how to install engines. also make sure to strip your old engine of all the sensors/water pumps. never know how usefull they can be.

And always make sure the place offers you a guarantee that the engine is in working condition, you will be amazed how many places will give you a engine with blown head gaskets.

Well so far so good, I have the wiring harness, problem is I had to get one that had been cut, good thing the motor I bought had the other part on it. Now the joy of putting the two parts together, two thirds done now. Just have to get a voltmeter to match up the rest of what I have left to splice together. Lots of work but I'm getting there. Once this is done I should almost be done, I've replace all the required electronics just have to put in the harness once its finished. Let you know when I'm done.

Motor and Transmission are in, just have to put in the trannie bolts to the motor then tighten them up to draw the motor onto the torque converter to get the fly wheel lined up to put the bolts back in then i have to put the passenger side mounts on, close but need to put the trannie bolts in first. Then all I'll have left is the vacumn lines and the fuel and coolent lines to worrie about once all that and the wiring are done. One step closer to success, i'll keep you guys posted on the rest of my progress.

Got a harness for the 3300, and the ecm that came with it, only prob I can see so far will be with the abs.

Wiring Harness is on and everything looks good, except the abs, gonna move forward and come back to the abs wiring after I get all the other odds and ends done. Hoping to fire it up tomorrow, wish me luck.

Well guess you guys were right bout the wiring, now I have to change the inner harness for the wiring, yippie, not too hard but teedious. Thats all thats left to do then hopefully it'll be driveable.
