how do u get the rear seal out

we own a 88 dodge dakota pickup.and the rear main seal is leaking so we are trying to change it but we cant seem to get it out. we have all the tools that it requires but nothing seems to help. can anyone suggest on how we can get this out????????if so please cantact me at chunk050805@yahoo.com and just put in reference to truck problem. thanku all very much for ur alls time.

I think with rear seal leaks either the engine or the transmission has to be taken out to get access to it. On a rear-wheel drive vehicle the transmission is probably the easiest to remove, but on a front-wheel drive vehicle it is might be easier to remove the engine to get access to the seal.
