i just changed the fluid and filter on our company's 2000 jeep grand cherokee. i put aprox. 2 1/2 qts of atf +4 and did everything the haynes manual tells you to do. when i check the fluid level sometimes its good sometimes its bad, and there is like a gurgling coming from the pan only when it is in neutral.

Is it a 4 liter six? If so, only check the fluid level while in neutral, not in park.

yes its a 4.0. when i check it i run it through all the gears then into neutral and check it. it also slips when you go to drive it. i am affraid to put anymore in it because i don't know how much it takes and i don't want to overfill it.

Did you change the filter at the same time? Also, 2 1/2 qts sounds a little light -- they typically take around 4-5 quarts when you drop the pan. Being just a quart low can cause it to malfunction.
I would try adding more trans fluid...if it's already slipping it can't hurt - either the transmission is low on fluid or it has an internal problem which probably means it needs to be overhauled.
But with the symptoms described, it sounds like the fluid is so low the pump is picking up fluid erratically and is taking in air along with the fluid.
