I am most likely asking a question that has been asked before. I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am GT with the 2.4L 4-cycl engine. Th engine runs fine but in the future I may want to rebuild it to get more performance out of it. Dealing majorly with the upper half of the motor, I am not able to find any local auto parts store that sell or even stock camshafts and upper end parts. If I rebuild my motor I will really need two new camshafts because it is the twin cam version. Anyone got any web pages where you can order complete rebuild kits or atleast every internal engine part seperatly? Let me know, I am looking to do a rebuild soon.
why not just purchase a newer model with a larger engine? Go for a year or two old example of a GT or a G6 with a larger displacement engine. Cost would be about the same but reliability would be way better.

Overall, my car has been very reliable. Havent had any problems yet and it has 128,000 miles. Aslong as everyone is watching there oil changes very well and doing routine maintenance the 2.4L should perform well past 200,000. But like I said, I am looking for parts for it. If you guys have any web pages with parts let me know.

the reliability I was refering to was after you mod your 2.4 compared to a stock larger displacement engine...

as for 'rebuilding' the engine... I think the dealership might offer that but im sure it'd be a pretty penny... I know a guy who had a grand prix, and he had his engine rebuilt from the dealer... they basically tore apart the whole engine and tranny and replaced parts that were broken or worn....
"Performance" parts I could find easy for a 4cycl grand am
