My grand cherokee has 98,000 miles. The air bag light has come on and will not go off.The fuses are good ....Does anyone have an idea?
What do I need to look for and how do I check it?

The airbag light will "light" when there is a malfunction in the airbag system. The fault is present in the air bag controller. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. If you have an autozone nearby they will scan the computer for FREE.

Also I know that there was a clockspring issue with the 99-00 that caused the airbag light to come on.

Hope this helps.

The problem with your vehicle (along with about 200,000 other chrysler made cars and trucks) may be a failed 'clockspring'. This component is actually an extension cord in the steering column that brings current up into the steering wheel airbag from the dash. It is a flat ribbon wire that turns about 4 revolutions in each direction, winding tighter or looser with each turn, just like a 'watch spring'. Thus the name. The bad news is:
The wire has actually broken inside th column and the clockspring needs to be replaced.
The good news is:
It's not that expensive to repair (@ $150-200 parts and labor) and it will restore all of the functions you listed
The Best news is:
It may be covered under a warranty recall. Many of them are, depending on your milage. Give a dealer a call wit your VIN & they can tell you on the phone if it's covered.

I'm enclosing a link that will explain it even better for your review. (Click on the "Clockspring" link on that page)

I hope I've answered you question & helped you. Good luck
