Almost tire time. What's your experience?fredjacksonsan 03-22-2007, 09:45 AM So with almost 40K miles on the Cooper tires that came on my 2000, it's getting close to replacement time and I'm kicking around some options. I've checked online at TireRack.com and other places for tire reviews, but wanted to find out what folks here have on their GC's - and what kind of tire wear and traction has been experienced. And maybe what brands of tires to stay away from. Thanks in advance! msdz 03-22-2007, 02:34 PM I had Kumho before, they were kinda on the cheap side but lastest me a long time before I got rid of vehicle. Great traction in snow, I had all weather radials. No need for a rough tread unless I was going off road and that particular vehicle stayed on the road except for the occassional run down somebodies muddy driveway and what little bit of mud they were in they had fair traction. I got rid of the vehicle before tires actually wore out with me but I had 50K on them when I got rid of them and the new owner still has the same tires on, I do not know how much he drives the vehicle though. I still had deceit tread on them also. sreilly77 03-22-2007, 06:46 PM i have Bridgestone Dueler ATs 235/75R15 on my 98 GC Laredo. great in the snow and on the highway they don't make much noise like your typical all terrain tire. i have Goodyear RTS's on my 96 Dakota Sport 2x4 and they ride rougher than the Duelers. jeepgclwj 03-22-2007, 07:17 PM I have been running the Brigestone Dueler as well for about 5000 miles. I like them so far and they did great in the snow. I live in Columbus ,Ohio and we got our fair share this year. I didnt get stuck one time. I did however have to put it in 4-low a few times, but that was all in fun :iceslolan Plus there rated at 99 mph for those fast days:evillol: kahjdh 03-22-2007, 09:13 PM I have BF Goodrich All Terrain K.O.'s and they are a good tire. Not too much road noise and had good traction when it was snowing. hardisk_c 03-23-2007, 06:04 AM The Bridgestone Dueler A/T's seem to be popular b/c that's what mine came w/ three years ago, and 25k later, still look almost new. bringselpup 03-23-2007, 09:54 AM Michelin XCX APT found at Sears. 235/75R/15 Came with the vehicle and the 2 fronts needed to be replaced so it was cheaper to just do 2 more instead of a full set. And 40K later the rears that came with the vehicle appear no less worn and the fronts are still in great shape. legalfee 03-23-2007, 04:46 PM Michelin Cross Terrains on the front and XC LT4's on the rear. The LT4s have 70,000 miles on them and I'll probably replace them with cross terrains. IMHO Michelins are the best. dksob81 03-23-2007, 06:28 PM BRIDGESTONE DUELER M/T 235/75 R16 I just got these tires on my 98 Grand 5.9 Limited about 2 months ago and they are a great tire in MUD and SNOW, they make very little noise, I mean very little noise and if you seen these tires you would think they would rumble like heck and make all kinds of noise but they really don't, I had UNIROYAL LIBERATOR A/T on my old jeep and the noise were about the same, my old ZJ had a bad axle bearing and needed to be replaced but wasn't real noticeable. The only thing about the tires is you feel them when slowing down starting at about 10MPH and the same when taking off until about 10MPH, you feel the lugs of the tires rumbling on the road. But an excellent tire overall. mileage wise I cannot say because I have only had them on for 2 months but there is a great write up on them they had these tires on a land rover and replaced the tires twice in 100K miles with an alignment problem, so getting average of 50K miles out of a set of tires is very very very good. beat88ls 03-24-2007, 04:02 AM yokohama geolandar AT II they are awesome in the snow, give a pretty quiet ride, have got about 40,000 miles out of them and i paid $125 a tire http://catalog.dmwork.ru/catalog1_1/images/01_g011.jpg i have a 97 and an 04 grand cherokee, both have them, and i would buy them again fredjacksonsan 03-25-2007, 08:47 AM Thanks everyone....appreciate it. turtlecrxsi 03-26-2007, 09:35 AM I've got Michelin LTX M/S 235/75-15s and they're extremely smooth and quiet. They work very well off-road as well. I've even ran in some snow off-road with no issues. I may upgrade to BFG's next but I still have tons of tread life left so we'll see. GL bugheman 03-26-2007, 01:43 PM I found luck with the Dunlop radial Rover A/T. Pu on 96 JGC with about 95K on them and they are worn out now at about 155K. Cannot complain over the trials and tribulations of Chicago Winters and Summers. Will buy again if the opportunity comes back. Have not found any other subsitute for the price and options. PEACE AND LOVE msdz 04-05-2007, 06:24 PM So Fred, what you get? Or not made a decision yet? I see a lot of JGC's running with the BF Goodrich A/T tires. I run whatever tire I can afford at the time I need the tires. The Kumho was what I could afford when I last bought tires, lol. fredjacksonsan 04-06-2007, 08:13 AM So Fred, what you get? Hopefully they'll last through next winter, I tend to drive about 30K per year. Thanks for all the reviews. Anyone have a tire experience that they would not want to repeat? jeepgclwj 04-06-2007, 11:45 AM Thanks for asking. I bought a set of used tires once for my Camaro..:banghead: It was not money well spent......lol Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
