Where can I extract stock power

I own a 01 4.8 silverado. I have seen that this year model has a bigger cam. Well also the stock plugs are ACDELCO/NGK IridiumIX. Aside from an KN and an exhaust It is bone stock. I dont want to swap heads for an additional 10cc of flow. Is there any way to extract more power using OEM parts?
differnt intake tube?
different exhasut manis
different T/B
different ecu

1. Get a Nelson/Wheatley or other professional tune for your PCM

2. Do away with your clutch fan and get some LS1 fans

3. Have you considered underdrive pulleys? About $200 and worth ~17 HP at the wheels

The fans and pulleys together should give you something like ~25 HP at the wheels.

Pulleys of smaller than diameter than the stock ones. ASP makes a set for our trucks.

Although I am a newbie to forums in general, I have had Chevy trucks since '91. 1993 5.7 Silverado longbed, '00 Silverado 4.8 shortbed and my current truck. What is the stock hp for the 4.8?

Hey Blender,

Which Pulleys did you get from ASP? For somewhat easy of a Mod. You certainly got me looking at their site. Do you have to use these pulleys in conjunction with the LS1 fans or can you use just the pulleys. Do you have a model number or link to section of their site?

The other mod I want to do is the Nelson Performance.... Lots of great reviews from guys on here about them.

I'm not comfortable enough yet to switch over to the fans yet.

There was an interesting article in this months "Truckin'" magazine that showed a product from SLP that turned a stock 5.3L engine into a "350hp" truck. It also gave the dyno printout from before and after the mods. There was a noticeable improvement in hp and torque at the rear wheels. The package came with a complete new exhaust, a set of ceramic coated headers, an intake/box/filter package, and a different set of lifters. The lifters had a different fulcrum design from the stock, giving it the effect of a higher cam. I believe there was also an upgrade to the PCM. After all was said and done, the improvements came out to somewhere in the neighborhood of $2600, including some exterior enhancements.

I do not have the pulleys, but AFAIK, you do not need to switch over to e-fans.

That's pretty close to my 370hp 386tq my truck made on motor........which makes me very skeptical,to say the least, of their dyno sheet. Oh, ok I'll go ahead and call BS on their claims. Of course, I did make a shade under 500 on the gas though. 350hp on a 5.3L without any type of forced induction or cam swap is impossible. There, I said it.

What does a stock 5.3 get to the wheels?

Someone will correct me if Im wrong, but I thought I read on a site that it gets about 225hp and 250 ft/lbs of tq at the rear wheels. Now I cant be certain if thats 2wd or 4wd. If its 2wd im sure the numbers will be a bit lower after the parasitic loss through the transfer case.

I've seen a stock 2005 5.3L dyno as low as 218hp 254tq.
Most stock 5.3L dyno in the 225-245 range. Seems kinda weak when you start talking about rwhp eh?

Slow,

The dyno sheet did point out that the rear wheel output was considerably less, somewhere around 291 or so. So, I am thinking that the 350hp was engine output. It was a pretty decent improvement over the stock, but it sure was expensive. So, again, you are in the right!

As far as the setup goes, what do you think of the rocker arm bolt-on package? Here is the link if you get a chance to look at it:

I think that's the most overpriced 12 horsepower ever!!! The bad thing about the 1.85 rockers is the fact that most aftermarket camshafts have too fast of a ramp rate to even run the 1.8s. So, for the $1,099 a person spent on the rocker-arm package, they could have done a nice sized cam, comp 918 spring swap, and hardened push rods, and still be at half the price. Then you could spend that extra money you saved on a good torque converter and drop another .5-.8 of a second in the 1/4. That's the bad thing about slp. They slap their logo on something and all of a sudden its made of gold.
