Preventive Maintenancecmhmp10sd 03-18-2007, 11:42 PM I have a 22k on my GTI with no problems and I want to keep it that way. VW got hit hard on consumer reports. Anyway I want to know what a good miliage is to change the front and rear differential oil and transmission oil. I imagine these cars are not fun to work on since everything is jammed in there tight. Also I need to know the correct viscosity. I assume the same oil goes into the differentials as the gear box. Also, how long does a clutch last if you go easy on them? Thanks veedubmechanic 03-20-2007, 11:22 PM What engine do you have? The r32 is the only golf with a rear diff. I have noticed that any fluid other than the vw updated synthetic transmission fluid causes the low speed hummm noise when taking off from a stop and turning. I reccomend changing the Trans fluid every 40k miles wether its a 5spd or automatic. cmhmp10sd 03-23-2007, 11:29 PM 2.8 v6 24 valve, I guess it doesn't have a rear diff there is no need for one lol.
