Determing where oil leak is from.

1997 rodeo 100,000 has slow oil leak. I look under the car and it is covered with oil . Looks like it is below valve cover gaskets. Not much of a leak most of it must burn off. I add a quart every 2000 miles. Looks like the same amount of oil on both side of engine. Any Ideas.
I need to start to do some maintenance on this car. Noise timing belt or tensioner, half shaft boots , transmission has never been serviced.

Valve cover gaskets are notorious leakers on these engines; if you made it to 100K on your first set - that's great!

I'd just change them out when you do your timing belt, tensioner, waterpump, etc. Make sure you also do your thermostat, if it's original, and be absolute CERTAIN to use ONLY OEM Isuzu thermostat for that engine!

Also, might as well change out all your coolant hoses - especially your heater hoses, at 10yrs of age, they're shot!

Check my thread on the rear camshaft plugs. Less likely than the valve cover gaskets, but a possibility.

I forgot to mention I also need to replace front drive shafts. Boots are all split. I have been occasionaly squirting some grease in them just to prolong life. Is changing them difficult. Manual makes irt seem you have a lot to disassemble.
