A little OT. Painting/Dying a phone.

Sorry for the weird topic but this is the only forum that I've found that has relevant threads on durability, painting, dying of plastics. Namely this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t363218.html

So I have a few questions:
  1. I have a SCH-i730. Is the plastic on the majority of cell phones vinyl? If not the rest of my questions are way off base. Assuming they arent...
  2. Whats the best method for maximum durability on small pieces that are handled/abused a lot, VHT Penetrating Color Dye or SEM Color Coat? Or something else?
  3. Is SEM Color Coat a dye? From that above linked thread and this random page I'm guessing No?

I'd prefer gloss black but not mandatory, anything black will do. Just want it to be as durable as possible.

Thanks for reading
