strange noise

I have a 2005 colorado it has approx. 47k miles. i have been hearing this strange noise when i turn left or right. the noise sounds like something is loose under the truck. it sounds like metal clanking sometimes and other times it sounds like grinding. what could this be?

I'm going to assume you looked under the truck for loose parts. Is your truck a 4x4? Does it always make the noise when turning or only sometimes? When it makes the noise, lightly put on the brakes. Does the noise get louder, less noisy or stop? A lot of times, turning noises are in the front hubs because more weight is applied to the outside wheel in a turn. If the wheel bearings are worn, the noise is much louder in a turn because of the extra weight and sideways stress on the bearings.

Re: strange noise

On my 06 Z71, I have a "clank", when I'm exiting a driveway curb (1.5" Height) and turning, I believe it's the torsion bars, but I have no dragging sound.

Re: strange noise

I have a 2005 Colorado 4X4 just at 36,000 miles and it's doing the same thing... I took it in under warranty and they could not find a thing (they performed all of their tests). I have noticed that the noise goes away in colder weather and is very prominent in hotter temps. Sounds like there's something loose with the steering column when I turn left or right and I feel it sometimes in the gas pedal??? it's cold this week where I am but plan to take it back into the Chevy dealer next week when it's back to 80+degrees...

Re: strange noise

I also have a 2005 Colorado, I've had noises coming from the front end when I turn left or right. I took it into the dealership many times for many things while under warranty. This was one of the things they couldn't find anything a problem with. It originally made noise only in right turns but about a year ago it started making noise in right or left turns. I've looked many times under the front end found nothing loose or worn. Good luck.
