1990 four runner starting problems

My 1990 four runner will not do anything when i turn the key. I took out the starter and had advanced auto test it and it is fine. i dont know were i heard it but sombody told me that the starter solenoid is on the starter. thats not true because i asked the man at the store and they said that they had solenoids for that year truck and that its nowhere on the starter. There is one relay on the left sidewall of the engine compartment if your looking straight into the compartment from the front on that relay it says trac relay. i do not know what that is or what it does so if anybody knows if that could be what i need to replace and if not what you think it could be and were it is located on the truck thank you.

Other than not turning over, is there anything else not working? Do you have a repair manual with a wiring diagram? Is the battery good? Are both ends of each battery cable clean and secure? Is the switch for the clutch pedal good? Is the ignition switch good? Are all the fuses and fusible links good?

The solenoid should be attached to the starter. Generally the positive battery cable is connected to the solenoid, ther are some makes where it isn't. Follow the positive battery cable and see what it is connected to.

The link below is a picture of a starter and solenoid. The solenoid is the part with the wide black band and is attached to the starter with long bolts.

Solenoids must be on the starter. They are the force that pushes the starter shaft out so that the starter gear can make contact with the flywheel and turn the engine.

Don't ask car parts clerks about automechanics.
