I have a 1990 Lumina APV. The passenger side window will not roll down. It will only go up. First I purchased a new window motor, Same problem. I then got a new master switch for the drivers side. The switch on the driver side does not show any kind of power going to the passenger side at all. The passenger side switch will only roll down still. I have grounded the body or the passengers motor. Still the same problem. There are two wires going into the passenger side motor. One blue and one brown. I have power at both going into the motor when useing the passenger switch. Has anyone ran into this kind of problem? I even asked the automotive stores if there might be some type of relay for the power windows. But was told no. Suggestions anyone?

I have the same problem and have not yet solved it. I have replaced both door switches to no avail. Have you conquered it yet? Have you found a way to get the window back up manually? My window is virtually locked down by the motor.
Check all the wires going to the motor, On the Driver side, and the passenger side. Make sure none of the wires are broken or cut. That can sometimes have the same effect.
If the master switch has problems, so will the individual switches. When you activate any position like you stated, you should never have power at both motor wires. The switches are polarity switching: ground on one wire, hot on another for direction A, vice versa for direction B. Since you have voltage, and I'm assuming here that it's at least 12 volts, the missing component seems to be your ground. All the little switches get both hot and ground from the master switch. I would check how good the ground is to the master unit. Or the ground could be there, but not getting itself switched to the system due to resistive connection/s at the master. (possible, but unlikely) Or the ground is getting out of the master but is prevented from doing its thing for the passenger switch because of resistive connections at that switch or in some loom connector body somewhere in the car. Isn't electrical fun?
i had the same problem in my 97 and all i did was cut a wire that went to the switch and now it gose up and down from both switchs i dont remember the color but i will check and let you know
I have a similar problem with power windows on my 93 Transsport Van, but it is intermittent. Sometimes the switches work, sometimes not. I am wondering if it has to do with a grounding problem. If I allow a few minutes between attempts, the situation seems to improve (I think maybe because the ground connector has heated up somewhere and isn't making good contact). Any thoughts?

There's a thermal resetting circuit breaker protecting that circuit. If your window problem is creating an overload the breaker will kick out and try to restore the circuit after it cools (usually 1 to 2.5 min). Hope this helps you.

I have this problem with my 95 lumina back passenger window. motor will only roll one way. i was able to jumper the switch plug and get it to roll both ways but with the switch attatched it only goes one way. Wial jumpering the switch plug i did notice that one wire did not seem to be used, is this the one i can cut? its grey but it's the same size as the others. maybe this wire goes to the lockout button and something is wrong there. i hate wiring problems. has anyone found out what is causing this? thanks
You need to check behind the drivers kick panel and pull out the wires that go into the black tube that connects to the door. I had a 87 Buick Skylark with this problem and it ended up being that the wires in the tube had been flexed so many times, that two wires finally broke. Causing none of the switches to work except for the drivers. Hope this solves your problem. -Chris

MY SON IN LAW JUST ABOUT PUT HIS EYE OUT TRYING TO FIX IT.
HOW DO WE JUMPER THE WINDOW TO MAKE IT GO UP AND HOW CAN I TELL IF IT IS THE MASTER SWITCH ON THE DRIVERS DOOR OR THE MOTOR THAT IS BAD.
I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP MY SON IN LAW IN ONE PIECE HE IS A GREAT YOUNG MAN AND THIS IS THE 1ST THING HE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO HELP AND OLD LADY FIX.

Usually would be the ones near the side the switch rocks toward to perform the desired operation. I have not seen what these look like on the underside, though. When GM had the old chrome style switches, I could just insert a screwdriver blade just ahead of the switch rocker and get it to operate. These are much more inaccessable. Did he disconnect the harness from the switch assembly, or leave it hooked up? I'd probably try to jump it through the connector's backside, with the switch plugged in, if it can be pulled free of the door far enough to do that. I think the worst that could happen is the fuse might blow if you guessed wrong.
