Faulty Engagement Plunger in Starter?fanworks 02-23-2007, 05:55 AM For those that read my "Tired Battery or Tired Starter" thread, this one is on a new topic focusing more on the starter itself. Today, I put in a brand new Exide Extreme Battery (108 Month) in the truck with 770CCA and 950CA. The truck isn't starting any better than it did before, but the old battery was pretty near the end of its life anyway, so a replacement wasn't a bad idea. What I did notice now that the battery has plenty of juice is that sometimes when you click the ignition to start, you hear the Engagement Plunger "CLICK", I thought it was the starter teeth engaging, but I'm thinking what I was hearing was the plunger click to engage. My belief is based on the fact that the lights do not DIM, something that DOES happen when the circuit engages and the starter turns, and something I would also think would happen if the ciruit in the starter was being completed, but it wasn't getting enough juice to turn. It also explains why after several tries the engine would start, as helpful folks pointed out in the previous thread, shouldn't be possible if the battery was flat. So, anyone have evidence that I'm on the right course, or that I'm heading down the wrong road again. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
