Exclamation 2002 Nissan Altima steering wheel controls don't work

I had my father change the transmission in my 2002 nissan altima and he took the steering out of the car. Well my son thought it was a good idea to turn the steering wheel without the steering attached. The steering wheel would spin very easy from what he said and as he was spinning it he heard a crack and stopped spinning it. When my father put everything back together nothing on the steering wheel works.(Radio and Cruise Control and the Trip meter on the wheel)Also the airbag light flashes now, and the check engine light is on. What could be the problem? And when you turn on the head lights the dash lights go out.

Thanks
Sandra
