2000 Bonneville coil spark short?hotsun 02-16-2007, 10:31 PM The number 2/5 coil/brick has a spark from the plug wire to the screw that bolts the coil brick to the base. It's running rough and nissing at idle. Occasional voltage drop when missing. Replaced the coil and sparking condition still exists. Any thoughts or solutions? Thank you in advance for any advice. Mickey#1 02-17-2007, 12:03 PM Sounds like it's time for new spark plug wires. GTP Dad 02-17-2007, 12:45 PM New wires should improve or eliminate this condition. However, make sure that there is dielectric grease inside the boot on the new wire. This should keep the spark inside the boot. Most of the newer wires come with grease in them but some do not. Just buy a tube of grease and make sure to coat the inside of the boot with the grease. hotsun 02-17-2007, 02:47 PM Thank you Mickey, That appears to have corrected the problem. I appreciate your suggestion and help. hotsun 02-17-2007, 02:53 PM GTP Dad, I didn't grease the boots. Looks like I need to go back and do that. Thank you for your help and suggestion. Wish I still had my GTP, great car! Mickey#1 02-17-2007, 03:53 PM Glad to hear it's running better. Make sure non of the wires are touching (or really close) to the O2 sensor. hotsun 02-17-2007, 04:22 PM Is this the O2 sensor? Or area that plug wires should not be near. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Pictures\o2 sensor.jpg Mickey#1 02-18-2007, 09:26 AM The picture isn't showing. Looks like you may have tried to link it from your hard drive. The O2 sensor is on the rear exhaust manifold. Kind of looks like a spark plug. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
