Hey everyone. New to this forum. Little back ground. Worked for a local Honda dealer, and had them quote me price on 97 GT they had. They quoted me for a Grand Am. $9200 is what I paid. I really wanted a GTP and seeing Im a Honda man who likes to swap motors I have decided to change my GT into a GTP. I drive over 160 miles a day to work and have found many motors out there sale. So I'm doing my research and look at buliding the motor with everything possible done to it. I am shooting for the over 350hp mark.
I will let you know how that goes.
$3500 to make a regular grand prix gt in to a grand prix gtg??? who cares about the leather seats and all the other bull that comes on a gtp the way i see it is a gtp has the same moter as a regular gt but with the supercharger. i bet that someone can find a supercharger to add to the series 2 motor and make it more powerful than a gtp.
the cost and everything that is involoved in doing the change over is going to get real expensive like 5-6k expensive. we will start in the back of the car, the fuel system is different and will require a different pump, onto the interior, the DIC (driver information center) is different, the shift knob will need to be changed to allow for the Performance shift (only avalibe on GTP's unless you have the DHP PCM) Now on to the engine. The motor in a GTP is a L67 not like the L36 that is in your GT. The GTP motor has differnt pistons and heads, the GTP has the fuel injectors in the heads as the GT has them in the intake manifold, there are about twice as many vacume lines on a GTP becuase of the Supercharger, the (under hood) fuse block would need to be changed to support the new dual stage fuel pump and have relays added. then there is the PCM, wire harness, and the list goes on.
Its really not worth it to be honest. For all the time and effort to put it is not worth it. Plus you have to add the cost to have someone put it in. I checked into it and was like screw this I rather just get a DHP PCM and some other mods for that cost.
Listening to Brandon Budd makes me feel just *this much* smarter. Yes. you do have to do more stuff to a GT to make it exceed the performence of a GTP. It's not as simple as popping a supercharger in there. There's all that shit you gotta do. If you want to make your GT a GTP, just sell your GT and buy a GTP... The conversion process would be too much of a hassle and definantely would not be worth the money. If you just get a GTP you can hop right the modifications if you wanna.
In response to Scott 02's statement about exceeding the performance of a GTP once you put a supercharger on the Series II GT motor: If you get everything setup so you can have a supercharger (a pretty good list of stuff), suceeding the performance of a STOCK GTP wouldn't be too difficult.. Hell.. all you need to do is put a supercharger pulley of a lesser size on (the lesser the circumference of the pulley, the more boost) and that's what? 30-45 Horsies right there (depending on the size). The stock supercharger isnt at it's peak ability for warenty reasons, it only runs 8psi@redline . If it were, then more stress would be on the engine, meaning they'd be replacing a lot of engines if people have the warranty for the car still

yeah, youre right... just so u kno, the last time someone touched this thread before you was almost 2 years ago, so.....theyve prolly made their decision
I'm still waiting on the guy that said he was going to buy a 1998 GTP with 104,000 miles on it for $9,000.00. I have one I will sell him for $8,500.00. Have to find them in a corn feild some where.
