does anyone know if you can clean an EGR Valve for and Olds Slhouette and if so how is it done. Keep in mind this is an electronic EGR Valve.

Thanx in advance

You have to be careful, but they can be cleaned. Carb cleaner and an old toothbrush will work. What code do you have, as cleaning may not help?

I don't know the code because it is intermittent. My car is OBD I and it also can't be grounded to get the codes. I am basing the EGR problem on what the Van is doing. It feels like the eguine is loosing power when I am doing a constant speed say about 40mph. I sometimes loose power when I first back out of the driveway. This does not happen all the time and the check engine light doesn't always come on. I have replaced the coil pack, plugs, wires, air cleaner, O2 sensor and fuel pump. Any other ideas

PRoblems with this EGRvalve type often are caused by faulty feedback resistor built in the valve..

I suggest you post in the Tansport forum that is more related to your vehicle type, overall.
If you want to read the codes you can procure that (www.aldlcable.com) to use with a laptop computer....

I assume your van has the 3800 as you stated you replaced the coil packs. Your 95 has the hybrid OBD-1 system which requires a prfessional scan tool to pull the codes. There are so many different things that could cause your symptoms, I would suggest paying to have the codes pulled, then post them here to help us point you in the right direction.
