98 Jimmy Fuel Gauge Problem

My fuel gauge works...BUT when I hit 1/4 tank it jumps back to FULL. I fill up and it works again until 1/4 tank again. Any ideas on how to correct this?

Thanks,
Andy

I guess the level sensor buffer could be acting up, I don't really know. When mine acted up, it would just wander from past full to around half full and sensor & pump module replacement corrected it.
On yours, I'd try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes then reconnect with the hope the fuel level sensor buffer will reset itself.

Re: 98 Jimmy Fuel Gauge Problem

It is likely to be your sensor in the fuel tank.... for some reason GM has LOTS of problems with this. You can replace the sensor alone, it still requires removing the gas tank, but it will save about $300 over replacing the pump as well. You will likely have to buy the part from a dealer, I got mine for about $220. Good luck with that.
