This topic has been addressed NUMEROUS times recently. Please use the very efficient search feature for the forum (upper right of the Taurus forum page). First and foremost, please provide the year of you Taurus and and the engine in the car when posting on the forum. Check the level of the coolant. If there is an air pocket, it could cause random heating. Seems more likely that either the plugged heater core or bad water pump impeller would be the culprit though. Again, more details on these topics can be found by searching the forum. Much more detail than I want to attempt to type here. -Rod cody84 02-06-2007, 10:32 AM my coolant level is full and it is a 92 taurus gl with a 3.8 v6...im hoping its just the thermostat because that is a quick easy and cheap fix dddcccmack 02-06-2007, 12:19 PM Maybe this . . maybe that. . read the other posts and start a trial and error. Start with a flush/back flush, dump the coolent into a container and check for junk. If it has junk in it you will never get it perminitly clean so install a filler. thats my opioion. cody84 02-06-2007, 01:13 PM now today i went to brush the snow off my car and warm it up to see if the engine gets hot but it didnt and now my heater is blowing hot air the exact opposite of what happened last night hot engine cold air from heater Huney1 02-06-2007, 07:02 PM I keeps seeing talk about a cooling system filter but I can't fine one and don't know what it is and never saw one. Please post a link or product name so I can take a look see because it sounds like a good idea. shorod 02-06-2007, 10:37 PM I keeps seeing talk about a cooling system filter but I can't fine one and don't know what it is and never saw one. Check out the thread at http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=658838&highlight=core+filter -Rod dddcccmack 02-07-2007, 11:38 AM Its been about 2 months and 1,000 miles since I installed the filter and it still works slicker than snot. I do have from time to time a small leak between the brass fiting and the plastic filter thred probly cause of heat expantion/contraction of brass to plastic is differnet. Ideally it needs a plastic fiting. (by plastic I mean synthatic poly ?? something) The filter is at Home Depot hardware store. anybody that doesnt have a HD near them post a mesage and ill go to the store and get the manufacure name and number for the filter. Its part of the stores outdoor water drip system stuff (not made for cars but it works) Huney1 02-07-2007, 12:03 PM I didn't know it is an aftermarket home brewed rig. I believe I'll continut to flush mine the old way and that way I get all the crud out anyway. Thanks. dddcccmack 02-07-2007, 08:16 PM When you do that flush besure you use only professional flush equipment by a professionally trained skilled Ford personal, none of this do it yourself at home with the old brewed rig garden hose. This is complicated stuff, lots of things can go wrong using the wrong equipment. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
