Lightbulb need suggestions on car problem

I have a 1990 Lumina and was running fine as of last night, went to start today and it seemed to have lack of fuel. It turns over but doesnt start. Will fire using starting fluid but still wont start. I have checked the fuel pressure, fuel filter, checked that fuel is getting to the fuel rail, checked for blown fuses. If anyone has more suggestions I really could use the help. Thanks!

Re: need suggestions on car problem

Needs proper fuel pressure to open the injectors...pushing the schreader valve and seeing fuel come out is not a good indication of proper pressure...borrow a pressure guage at AutoZone and check it...I think it needs to be around 40 psi or better on yours....richtazz or someone else will know...

Re: need suggestions on car problem

Sorry...I misread.

Check for an injector signal with a test light yet?

I guess you can rule out a crank position sensor, it would have no spark as well....I think you'll find your problem in the ECM or wiring, it's not telling the injectors to do their thing, or the signal is not getting there...check wiring from the ICM to the ECM, and make sure your engine grounds are a good...

Hopefully someone will come up with more...I'm a bit slow tonight...

Ok--so I tried the paper clip method and got the regualr flashing code that it said I should and then no other codes ever flashed. I have tried this multiple times and no codes have flashed except the one that is supposed to. I have checked the plugs and wires. And I am still getting a spark. It still turns over, still has enough fuel pressure, I changed the fuel filter just in case, any more thoughts on what I shoud try next?

Re: need suggestions on car problem

Is this a 1990 with the 3.1 V6 or the 2.5 4 Cylinder? Have you done a compression test yet? I think the 2.5's had nylon timing gears which weren't very good.

Then like jeff said you should check to see if your getting injector pulses. The 2.5 had a single injector above the throttle body. In the 3.1 they are barried under the plenum. You should be ably to get to a single injector plug, the one near where the fuel lines go into the rail.
