i'm looking to pick up a new car for 1500-2000$. Aside from the Nissan 240sx, i'm also considering the Toyota Corrola (85-86) particularly the coupe and the AE86 hatchback, if i can find one. i wanted to know if anyone knew where to find the hatchback body style? Also, what kind of engine swaps are there for this car (i know i can put an SR20DET in a 240sx for 210hp). What engine can i put in a corrola for similar results? Who makes suspension components for this car, and body kits? this is the car i would like to buy between the two just because of the origionality of the AE86 in my area, no one has one.

I have seen an SR20DET engine in an AE86 before at Sacramento Raceway Park. The car was turbo-charged (you could hear it spool) and the guy ran 12's. I believe the car is located in Sacramento, California.

Easiest (and cheapest) way is to drop in 4A-GZE then turbo,s troke and wind up boost.

Not with out cutting a hole in the firewall you can't.

The 20valve engines have the distrubter located on the back of the chylinder head, and it makes the engine to long to fit in an AE86.
People to make them fit, but it does require cutting a small hole and access hatch in the fire wall. Its not something you really want to do to a road car, as you also have to remove all the engine bay insulation from the engine side of the fire wall.

you can get a kit to mount the dee cap right where the cam pulley is.

i dunno who sells that kit or how much it costs over here..but i've seen it done.

Just wondering if the car has a 4AG or a 4AC motor...is it a DOHC or a SOHC? and also does it have rear drums or disk breaks?
BTW the AE86 and the AE86 are the same chassy..just little diffrence in the motor and the SUS

hehe yea i just picked up some rims for my '85 and i talked to the dude that sold em to me and he said that the 84 models were only SR5 ... which is an AE86, but its not a GTS.

it would alot more work to get a SR5 to good racing status over the GTS which is what i got.

Just to clear things up

base, SR5= AE85( 4AC SOHC and Drumb rear)
GT-S = AE86(4AG and All disc)

So your friends 84 SR5 is a Hachi Go(Ae85)
