Do you have a second key?
Did you try it?
It looks like either the contacts in the lock that touch the resistor chip inside the key are worn out or the thin wires going from the lock are damaged.
Search the forum - this problem has been discussed for several times.
One of the solutions is to fool the theft deterrent system by soldering a corresponding resistor in parallel to the contacts (first, you have to measure the resistor built into your key and buy one at Radioschack or somewhere else).
