Does any one out there know what the tow weight would be for a 1989 Chevy 3500 seriew with a 454 and two wheel drive would be?

I forgot to mention that the sticker on the drivers door size can't be read and it does not tell in the manuel for the truck which I have.

Sorry i didnt answer. Are you looking for the gvwr or tow rating? GVWR should be around 8000# but it could tow anything you put behind it. Its a 454 man! What exactly do you want to know?

I know that the engine is a big engine but to do the towing of a fifth wheel unit the right way you have to know the weight of the truck and the towing weight and the stickers for this are so bad on the truck that you can't read them. So that is why I am asking if anybody knows the weight of the truck and the tow weight also which I didn't make clear before. The truck is rated for only a certain amount and that is all this truck should pull up and down the road. If you need to pull more you need to get a bigger truck.

well the truck itself should only weigh maybe 4500 to 5000 pounds. a smallblock regular cab shortbed c-10 from 73-87 weighs under 4000, so adding the big block if its a quad cab, prolly around that 4500 to 5000 just mentioned. at least if its the old body style with the square taillights... the GVWR is whatever you want it to be really. if youre just pulling a fifth wheel camper, that should be nothing for it. we pulled a 30 foot 7000 pound fifth wheel around in a 1990 3/4 ton non-dually with a 350 with no problem, so i think any camper out there would be fine for it. or horse trailer for that matter

The Chevy truck as far as I know is an extended cab and has the big block engine and transmission in it. It isn't so much pulling the vechile or fifth wheel trailer as it is having the proper weight for the truck going down the road.

The GVWR of that truck is 8000# or less with standard truck plates. The amount that you can tow has nothing to do with the truck. There is no trailer out there made for a pickup that that truck can't handle. Now you have to liscense the truck accordingly. I don't know what state you live in, but in illinois a standard pickup can haul 8000# and below with standard plates. You have to go up a plate rating to haul more. Again in Illinois the next plate up is 10,000# which should be more than accurate for anything that you want to pull. Don't worry about the weight or ability of the truck, just go to the local DMV and ask what weight ratings that you can get for trucks. You would however need to know about what the trailer you are looking to pull weighs.

the gvwr is around 8000# if your towing with a fifth wheel setup you shouldnt have a problem ive towed a 25' trailer with car in it and all my tools on the same setup the bumper however cant have more than around 600# of tongue weight at the ball
