brake lights out

i have a 97 lumina.. the brake lits work now and then, first one gos out then both. the third lite in the window works fine. iv cleaned all the wires and the fuse boxs. any help.. thanks

It's the multi-function siwtch (combo turn/hazard/wiper/cruise, etc)

thaks but i took joe drivers advise and run new lights from the third brake lite.. works good.. thank you

As the m/f switch gets worse, you will start to lose parking/running lights, interior lights, and blinkers. That trick is a band-aid at best. You'd be better off fixing the problem switch before you get in an accident because someone didn't see you.
