Can any tell me what is a good replacement battery and the part #for it?

I use a battery (silver or platinum) from Advance Auto parts in my 1988 750. These batteries are made by Interstate and in my case a direct drop in application and did not cost a lot of money.

I bought my replacement battery at Autozone for < $100. It is properly vented and works great on my '95 740i.
