I've been wanting to get an old muscle car with a Chevy 350 in it and switch it over to fuel injection so that I can afford to use it as a daily driver, and still have some fun. Has anyone ever done this before? I know there are kits for it, but it seems most of the ones i've seen are TBI and are performance, and i'm really looking more for mileage than for power. I'd like multiport, but the only ones i've seen are edelbrock and are about 3000 dollars, a little more than i'd like to spend. If you've done this, what problems, if any did you experience? Besides the basic stuff, what did you have to end up replacing, and how much did the project end up costing in the end? And what kind of mpg and horsepower gain did you experience?

Any help whatsoever on this is appreciated......I just really want a car that looks how cars are supposed to look, has some kick to it, and won't kill me at the pump.

your probally gunna get the same milage. the benfit from fuel injection is cold weather driving and throttle response. I would just leave it carbed.

i personally think youll get better mileage with efi for sure, especially if you switch to electronic timing control at the same time.

TBI will give you atleast 2-4 MPG more. Jeg's has a kit from Holley that bolts on a 4 barrel manifold. It's a 2 Barrel TB thats 670 CFM, thats good for a 350. It goes for $775.99, but must be a bitch to install with all those stupid oxygen censors and electronics. But it's not a performance one, it says only up to 275 HP applications. It's a complete kit though.
In the end I'm sure you would be glad cuz a 2 MPG increase over a certain period of time will bring the money you spent back to you. Plus you have the better throttle response and cold weather driving like TheMan5952 said, but you will get better mileage. A guy I know has a 86 chevy pickup with a carbed 305, gets 10-12 MPG. He just got a 90 Suburban with a 350 TBI and gets 15 MPG hauling a small enclosed trailer with a racing go-kart in it.

the megasquirt system is a build it yourself deal where you buy a basic kit, add a few parts, and some software, and plug it into your efi system. the basic computer can be built for about $200. the system is a batch system, so no sefi. also the system does NOT include ignition controls, so you need your carb dist. there have been several successful installs of the system. get the port injection intake from a late model engine and use that for your efi install.

Going from carb to sequential fast on my car I easily doubled my mileage in town (from 4-5 MPG to around 10) and driveability is a ton better, no more stalling at stop lights, and it has much better mid range power.
