directions for replacing resistor

i have a 99 grand am GT with the GT. I was wondering if anyone had really good instructions on replacing the blower motor resistor. I know that i need to remove the panel in the footwell but do I also need to remove the lower motor as well? I have read other threads, but i need better directions. Thanks.
