Re: What Acuras use regular gas
^ While that is true, it's not a good idea IMO. Higher octane gas is used on higher compression ratio engines and boosted engines, to prevent knock aka premature detonation. When you use the lower gas, the ECU will retard timing, and yes therefore it will run with less power, but still run. The thing is, your ECU doesn't retard the timing until it sees knock. Which means some damage is already being done...before the ECU compensates.
Have you thought about Honda's at all....basically the same cars. I used to have a 90 Accord EX, and a few friends have had a couple of the 4th generations (90-93) as well. I think the CR on all models (DX, LX, and EX)was 8.8:1 and I don't recall them requiring premium fuel (although I could be wrong)
I ran it on regular 87 octane the whole time without incident. Also the 94-97 Accord DX and LX models still had the 8.8:1 CRs, and lastly the 98-02 DX models too.
They were reliable, cheap to purchase, insure, maintain and repair. And slow enough to not do too many stupid things in. It was a great starter car for me...and I'd recommend it.
Most of hte acuras that I can think of have upwards of the 9:1 and 10:1 CRs and require hte use of premium. Again, Greenblurr is technically correct, teh ECU will compensate..it's just a question of how much damage gets done everytime it has to compensate.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
