Change Oil light

How do i reset the lights on the dash board, my change oil light has been on for about a month now. I already changed the oil. I know you can disconnect the battery for like 20 mins. and it will go off, but i dont want to do that

Re: Change Oil light

Take the fuse box cover off of the drivers side of the dash, then put the key in the ignition to the on position (don't start the car, the radio will come on), there is a red reset button in the fuse box, press and immediately let go, then the change oil light will start flashing, then press the red button again until the light goes out, all of this is also in the car manual.
Hope this helps

Re: Change Oil light

Does you security light stay on all the time, or flash?

If it flashes at start up, see if it stops then try and start teh car.
This has to do with the passlock security system and when it craps out, you usually get stranded somewhere

But you never said what year and engine size,
so its hard to say.

BTW These are two very important things needed in properly identifying troubles.
And every other person forgets them :

Re: Change Oil light

Ohh...sorry, it's a 99 GA and i guess the engine is 3400 SFI? Actually I just noticed that it usually does it when i start the car with the remote start. This probally has something to do with it. It dosent flash, it just stays lit.

Is this a problem in the long run, will my car explode one day while it is on?

Re: Change Oil light

My 2004 GA doesn't have the reset button in the fuse box and the gas pedal procedure doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

I doubt it will explode, but I would carry a cellphone in case it strands you somewhere

Welcome to AF.

Did you look in the drivers side fusebox?
Top says "reset"....
The 2005 has one in there, I dont see why they would change it for 04'

Yeah ... the diagram on the fuse box cover shows that there should be a reset button there, but there isn't ... just an empty set of holes that looks like maybe the reset button was removed. Is that something I can replace?
