Question Techometer needle jumps up to 4000-5000 RPM when turning off the engine

Hi, I wonder if anyone had this problem before and what could this be?
Whenever I turn off the engine on 97 3.1L GA the tachometer needle jumps up to 4000 or 5000 RPM and stays there until engine is started again and everything is normal. When this happens engine speed does not increase its just that needle that makes me think is this some kind of sign that something is going bad with the ignition system since tachometer is connected to ICM. I know that my ICM is good, and I do not have any problems with starting.

Re: Techometer needle jumps up to 4000-5000 RPM when turning off the engine

I would not worry about it to much as they can rest at different places on other GAs. Some set at 2000 when the car is off.

Same with the newr ones too.

Thats why I you do some gauge overlays on your dash cluster,
you have to remove the needles,
its a good idea to take a picture of where the rest so you can calibrate them after you finish.
Or your gauges will be off.

Not all do this but if its not making things go all screwy,
dont worry. Like the saying goes, if its not broke dont fix it

Yeah,
I wouldn't worry about it either. I have a 98 GA GT 3.1 Liter and mine does the exact same thing. The other night it actually went all the way to 8,000 when I turned it off... and then i was like well I wonder what it would do once I start the car...I started the car...it didnt move I was like great its broke but then it kicked back to below 1,000 rpm idling. Yeah don't fix it if its not broke. I know its annoying and believe me I want my car to be perfect but there are always little things that will bug us about our vehicles and they wont be perfect.
