Question 328is shifting problem

Hello, I just bought a 97 328is with 70 thousand miles. The clutch seems to be fine and the engine compression is perfect. The only thing is wen I shift quickly into 3rd or 4th sometimes it does not catch. I have to let up on the gas for a second for it to get in gear. Its definately pulling somewhat wen it does this and ther is no grinding at all. The clutch feels real strong and is pretty new so i really have no idea wat to do. I appreciate any anyone who has an opinion on this, itll proably keep me up all night.

My father had the same problem with his Jeep... I'd take it in to have it tested... My father waited and it got to be absolutely horrid...

Well this what I know, all auto tranies work with oil pressur and computers. it sound to me that the computer is sending wrong signals to your trany, I wouldn't be surprised. The smallest cut in a wire would cause this that to happen. Have the wires and connections check first because the comp at the dealer will not tell you about this problem Thats why I hate going over speed bumps and any thing that hits the bottom. most bmw dealers would hook it up to the comp for free for a diagnosis thats the first step. If this comes out clean and it's not computer. related then prepare to wip out the binjamins for the internal repair
which cost between $1000 to $3000 or more for a bemmer!

Good luck, hope I was some help.

Don't forget the computer dose the shifting and "Do not ever go thro a auto car wash this will f-up your computer and maybe you trany too you don't want your computer f-up because for you car it's very, very, very exspensive about 4 g's plus hours and programing. This will happen, so save your self the maddness and wash by hand.
